2014 IAPD Plastics Application Design Competition

IAPD is pleased to present the second year of the IAPD Plastics Application Design Competition. This is your opportunity to show innovations with plastics to your industry peers and the press.

All new this year is the formation of two separate divisions: Corporate and Collegiate. Entries in the Corporate Division are not limited to IAPD members but non-members who enter must have an IAPD member involved in the project in some capacity. Collegiate Division entries do not have this restriction.

Also new this year is a more valuable prize package, plus a travel stipend available to qualified finalists in the Collegiate Division.

Three finalists from each division, Corporate and Collegiate, will be selected by an independent panel of experts to give a 10-minute presentation on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago, IL, USA.

Multiple entries from companies and/or schools are permitted. Applications submitted in 2013 that did not win are eligible to enter again in 2014. Designs selected as finalists in 2013 are not eligible for re-entry, although the companies or academic teams that submitted those designs may submit other projects for consideration this year.

See a selection of videos sent with the 2013 applications here.

A panel of judges will select the top three finalists in the Corporate and Collegiate Divisions. The judges represent:

  • OEMs
  • Members of the media
  • Academia
  • Experts in the plastics industry

Each team of finalists will give a 10-minute presentation to convention delegates on October 29. There will be an opportunity for Q&A.

After the presentations have concluded, delegates will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite applications in each division, Corporate and Collegiate. The applications that receive the most votes will be awarded the first place prize, the second most votes will receive the second place prize and the remaining teams will receive the third place prize.

All teams will be covered in IAPD publications (including The IAPD Magazine and IAPD News e-newsletter) as well as by the media sponsors. Each presentation will be professionally videotaped and those videos will be distributed to each team as well as media sponsors after the event.

Prize Package

Corporate Division finalists will receive a prize package comprised of IAPD offerings at the following values:

  • First place: valued at $2,500
  • Second place: valued at $1,500
  • Third place: valued at $750

All Collegiate Division finalists will receive a travel stipend and full convention registration. In addition, there will be cash prizes as follows:

  • First place: $2,500
  • Second place: $1,500
  • Third place: $750

Association Recognition

The finalists will be highlighted in a pre-convention half-page feature in The IAPD Magazine, in post-convention coverage in IAPD communications and will receive a video of their presentation at the 2014 IAPD Plastics Application Design Competition. The winners’ stories will be retold throughout the year in IAPD publications and marketing campaigns.
